Creating a healing, serene hospital space
November 20, 2009
We liked the simplicity of this design; as with all shoji projects, less really is more. The shoji create serene “rooms” in this hectic setting and tuck safely away when not in use. These finely detailed maple and glass doors create privacy for the patient receiving treatment; yet patients remain easily accessible for staff. Getting the frame dimensions just right was a real challenge. We didn’t want the shoji to look too bulky but they needed to be strong enough to support the glass insert and withstand hard everyday use. We love how the overall design concept by HGA Architects creates such a healing space.
